A card that is Countered has no effect

Counter is an ability that causes the next card of a specified type played by the opponent to be removed from the game without taking effect.

Notes

• Countered cards are removed from the game and cannot be returned with Resurrection effects.
• Cards are countered before they enter play, and they will not activate on-play Triggered effects.
• Counters will only activate when the card is directly played. Cast spell effects will not be interrupted.

Trivia

• Counter has been a keyword since the game's first release. However, prior to Voyage to the Sunken City, it only appeared on the card Counterspell.
• Oh My Yogg! and Ice Trap have effects that function similarly to a Counter, but do not use the keyword.
